Started in 1947, by Mack Dodd, with Dodd Furniture as the original store, the Dodd family celebrated its 63 year anniversary of serving Northwest Alabama in the retail furniture business in 2010. The original store first operated on Frisco Avenue, across from the railroad tracks in Winfield. Mack passed the store to his son, Bud, who went into a partnership with Roy J. Mills for several years. Bud then left the furniture business and went into farming for a few years. He then opened Dodd Trading Post in Gu-Win. Run as a family business, with Bud’s wife Edith as secretary and two of his sons, Dale and Mike, as delivery men, Bud operated in Gu-Win for several years. In 1990, Bud retired and Dale bought the store changing the name to Dodd Home Furnishings, Inc. Dale is the current owner along with his wife, Vikki. Dale and Vikki’s two sons, Will and John are helpers at the store during summer months and after school.
